My central principles in life are ‘Okagesama de’ and ‘Nana korobi ya oki’. ‘Okagesama de’ means ‘Because of your help, support, care, kindness and love, I am well and able to be here today’ — which expresses humble gratitude. ‘Nana korobi ya oki’ is a Japanese proverb originating from Zen tradition and means ‘Fall down seven get up eight’ — which my name ‘Yukiko’ comes from. “Whatever happens in your life, be strong, keep trying and looking forward, and ultimately you will achieve your goal.”

I value each and every opportunity to meet people and it is an honour for me to impart knowledge of Japanese culture and tradition through teaching the language. I am thankful for this moment, this day and this life.
